The best TV theme tune cover

Chance the Rapper you have outdone yourself:

This cover is just brilliant!

You’ve taken a beloved children’s TV show theme tune and made it your own whilst still retaining some of the core elements of the original. I don’t think I’ve heard a better cover of any song this entire year.

It starts off jazzy, everyone singing as and when then can, making a cacophony of beautiful sounds, then you get a hint of Arthur. It’s all you need to make you go crazy.

I remember the TV show Arthur for 3 things: 1) Arthur shouting “DW” all the time 2) The anthropomorphic animals who still have a pet dog?! and 3) The song played during the credits.

Nearly every 90s kid will remember the encouraging lyrics, “I said ‘Hey, hey! What a wonderful kind of day, we can learn to work and play and get along with each other'”

Not only was it life affirming but it was darn catchy. And somehow Chance has managed to keep an essence of this.

After a while of building, he finally kicks into the full theme song with a funk edge. It feels cool enough for you not to be embarrassed to be listening to it, whilst also close enough to the source material that you’re hit by a wave of nostalgia.

I’ve been listening to this song over and over for the past few days, wondering why no-one has ever covered the Arthur song before, it’s just great!

Chance takes some artistic liberties here and there, but who cares, the song is phenomenal. You need to listen to it if you haven’t already, I can guarantee it will brighten your day especially if you learnt to “believe in yourself (believe in yourself)” from TV…

Here’s the original which, to be honest, is amazing in itself:

Happy Monday all! Let’s bring a bit of Arthur cheer to wherever we are. It can go a long way.
